Mark me down as another who found Steve's post useful.
While not wanting to see the list degenerate into an NMR vendor's brawl, I
see nothing wrong with one vendor raising critical points about another's
product. Are they really supposed to sell a spectrometer simply by saying
"Ours is the best.... because it is."
Steve's comment about Varian having programmed in a high level langauge for
x years before Bruker may have bordered on the inflammatory; however I found
the point about the new Aspect Station1, and its SGI compatability, an
interesting point.
This is where I feel such discussion can be useful to prospective buyers.
Bruker say the Aspect Station1 is SGI compatable, Varian say it isn't. Why
is there a reason for disagreement?
The way I look at it, why would Bruker (the company who bought you the X32)
spend 3? years designing the Station1, when you could unplug it, and wander
down to your local SGI dealer, buy an Indigo, and plug that in in its
place?? Surely their time could have been better spent designing the new
features of the DMX.
Is it inviting death by flaming to suggest a Bruker applications person
could reply, rationally and calmly, to Steve Patt's (or these) comments.
That I would find most useful, were I in the market.....
